Pre-School

    • Pre-school education is accessible for children from 2,5 to 6. 
    • Although it is not obligatory, almost all children participate in pre-primary education in Belgium.
    • Pre-school supports multi-skills training of children and stimulates their cognitive, motor, and affective development.
How to enroll?

Nursery school starts from the age of 2 ½. It is not compulsory, but recommended. Most primary schools with a pre-school give those kids priority for their enrollment.

Depending on the network (French or Dutch community, municipal, provincial, catholic, etc.), and even sometimes depending on the school, registration deadlines and rules (online, by phone call...) may differ and it is up to the parents to inquire by themselves, depending on their priorities, location, etc.

When to enroll
  • In the French Community, pre-school registrations are received throughout the year. Contact the schools of your choice.
  • In the Flemish community, pre-school pre-registration usually starts in January before the targeted school year, with a second session in May.
